As Angola marks its 50th year of independence, the inauguration of the Quibala substation marks the completion of the Sumbe–Gabela–Waco Kungo project, a major national energy milestone engineered and executed by Mitrelli. The ninth and final substation strengthens the SGWK corridor and expands the infrastructure backbone supporting economic growth, industrialization, and improved quality of life across Cuanza Sul province.
Within the Taib Group ecosystem, Mitrelli continues to lead the development and implementation of national-scale infrastructure projects that strengthen countries and communities over time. The newly inaugurated Quibala 220/60 kV and 60/30 kV substation adds 335 MW of available power, supporting industries, public services, and daily life across the region. Together with earlier phases of the project, the SGWK corridor is improving the lives of 2.3 million people and supporting Angola’s broader strategy to expand energy access and accelerate industrialization.
This milestone also connects to a broader regional vision. In partnership with U.S.-based energy investor HYDRO-LINK, Mitrelli is advancing a 1,150 km cross-border transmission corridor linking Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo, helping expand regional energy integration, strengthen grid stability, and unlock cross-border trade across Africa
